Our 2-story home and electric water heater are 3 years old.

No issues until a couple weeks ago we noticed that in the morning our shower or bath in the master bathroom upstairs only had luke warm water and it would run out quickly, but all the downstairs spigets pulled hot water just fine.  If I was to take a shower in the afternoon or evening, I had hot water just fine.

The issue is intermittent also.....some mornings I have hot water just fine and there's no problem.

Thank you for any ideas or solutions.

Hello:  I'm guessing you have a hot water recirculation line.  If so, the check valve in the line is stuck open.  If none of the above fits, there may be a cross connection in the plumbing

If you have a recirc, there will be a return line, where water comes back into the water heater. A lot of them flow back in at the drain valve. A few flow back into the incoming cold-water line. There is an example in the Lingo section of Troubleshooting, reachable from the link on the home page. Check that out.

turns out it was the lower heating element.  I replaced that and all is well.
