I have an Envi-ro-temp G1F4033S3NV, 2 days ago we had very high winds here. Found no HW in the am, assumed wind had blown pilot out through the vent. Sure enough, the pilot was out, I re-lit with no problem, had nice steady blue flame and audible click from t-stat when turning up, nice ignition of burner and good even burner fire. Water temp was Normal/Hot after 30 minutes. Next day same problem but there was no wind to extinguish pilot. Re-lit again with same results. One shower was fine, Next one was cool by end. I checked and pilot was out. BTW vent is through the Roof and Tank is in closet on back porch. Any ideas ? Thanks!

I wasn't familiar with your model but now I see it's a Whirlpool "Flame Lock" made by American. Depending on your model, there will be either a flame switch incorporated into the thermocouple or a manual reset button at the lower right corner of the burner door. Since you say that you only light the pilot when it goes out I will assume that you have the flame switch incorporated into the thermocouple. The first thing you should do is to take a long feather duster and clean the bottom of the heater. Their is a flame arrestor screen indented into the bottom of the heater that goes from front to back on the left half with 40gl heaters and up. On 30 gl heaters the screen is towards the front half. Once the heater starts to heat the burner box starts to overheat when the screen is plugged. The flame switch will then cut out the pilot and you will have to wait until the burner box cools down enough to relight the pilot. This screen must be kept very clean. If this is the model you have then you can call American and request a free door enhancement assy to upgrade your heater's burner.

I am not sure who makes that heater, but usually when a pilot won't stay lit, the first thing to consider is replacing the thermocouple. If that doesn't solve it, then you consider more complex problems like venting. Randy Schuyler
