My water heater is about 8 years old, and in the last couple days, all of a sudden it will start popping very loud, to the point where it sounds like a fire cracker is going off inside of it. It this thing about to blow? What's up? They have been working on our water system in the neighbor hood lately, could it be that the tank is refilling? Just seems too loud to be just that. Thanks.

Relax. You just have sediment and the accompanying noise. There is a section on this subject under The Basics. Read up..... Randy Schuyler
