I have a Bradford White hot water heater. I live in a condo and the heater is in a very small closet along with the air conditioner unit, in the hallway outside my unit. The drain valve for the heater is located so low to the floor, that I cannot attach a hose! I need to drain the hot water heater! How can I fit the hose? Bradford White was no help AT ALL!!!! They told me to try to turn the valve to face up. Yea, right......... Any one have a solution?
Hello: I found a brass goodie in the hardware store that basically is a 45 degree fitting that hooks up to female hose on one end and male on the other. Having the bend in it helps for getting into tight places. If you can find one of those, good. Otherwise, it may be best to drain the tank, if possible and then replacing the drain valve with a straight brass ball valve. Or, (and this is fun) relieve pressure from the tank and replace the drain while the tank is full of water. Actually, a good plumber can do this. I've done it many times. The plumber will want to use a basin wrench to grab the bibb and a crescent wrench to grab the square shank of the basin wrench.
