Ok, my water heater sends hot water pretty quickly and does fine....put on some cold water to mix and it's fine. When taking a shower the hot water fluctuates real rapidly sometimes. Like, it will get hotter for a second, then back to normal. And sometimes it will get cooler for a second, then go back to normal. It also starts to get cooler after a ten minute shower! The water heater looks good on the outside, guessing about 5-6 years old...It is an electric unit, not running very far to the bathroom...Any suggestions? The only thing I thought it could be is that by shower fixture is a three knob setup. Does that have anything to do with it. The master bathroom right next to the bathroom i am referring to does not have this problem....please help??

Hello:  There probably is a cross connection or pressure imbalance in the plumbing.  A way to check and see if the heater is really at fault is to run water, but feel the hot line out of the heater.  If it stays at the same temp but the shower varies, you know it is not the heater.  Have a look at "tanklets".  Various questions that relate to yours are brought up there.  It's not an uncommon question ;)
