For over a year now, my hot water has been starting to clog from calcium like chips building up infront of the screens and blocking the water. It only effects the hot water, and it builds up fast. I had my water softener tested, and it is fine. The softner man recommended that it might be the hot water heater, the Anode Rod (?) on the inside is disintigrating, and that is what it is. It does not look like plastic to me, but chips of calcium. I am at a loss and not sure what to do. It has already contributed to a dishwasher breaking, and I can't afford to loose any more appliances to this frustrating issue. The water heater was installed in 1995. Can anyone PLEASE offer advice on what steps to take to resolve this.
Hello: It really sounds like the dip tube or pipe that delivers cold incoming water to the bottom of the tank is disintegrating. The dip tube is normally not difficult to replace. Check the anode and relief valve as well. There is more info on all these things elsewhere on this site
