When turning on the kitchen and bathroom facuets today, I noticed air in the hot water line along with a slight rise in the temperature. The electric water heater is only 3 years old - any suggestions as to what the problem may be???

Hello:  If you're on a municipal system and work was done on the main lines, you could be the happy recipiant of air and possibly sediment that got stirred up.  If your plumbing still has air in a few days, let us know and we'll see what trouble we can  get into :D

We actually have well water and there still seems to be quite a bit of air in the lines. However it only appears to be in the hot water line. Any suggestions?

Hello:  Hard or very conductive water will cause the anode to work too hard.  This produces gas which usually is most evident on first use.  A test would be to remove the anode and put a plug in place for only a few days to see if the gassing stops.  If so, a less active rod or a powered anode can help.  Another trick which works only for a short time is to put an automatic vent in the line.  Trouble is, in hard water they clog up pretty fast :?

ps.  A Marathon heater, (which needs no anode) is another way to get it done.
