I have a elec water heat water gets very hot then it kicks off reset i have put a new temp and reset switch on the top liment is new as well when the hot water is gone i have too push the reset again put the water is very very hot i have the temp turned all the way down i have not changed anything on the bottem element thanks chuck

If you know how to use a multimeter, use the Tanklets link at the top of the page and read Electric Water Heater Issues. It contains a step by step list of things to look for and test for. If you don't know how to use one, better get a pro to check it out. Electric water heaters are dangerous! Randy Schuyler

Chuck, If the WH is wired correctly then one of the elements probably has a crack in it. The thermostats only interrupt one leg so if a crack exists, a complete circuit exists through the water and the element will continue to heat until the red button (thermal) pops out. David
