Doing a little troubleshooting with a recently installed, used, AO Smith ProMax low boy water heater, hope you can help. The unit was in perfect working order for 20 months, moved it to a new location. No odors came from the unit before installation. Since it has been installed the hot water gives off an "oily type smell". Also the metal dishes in the dish washer are showing signs of tarnishing. Do you have an idea what caused this? I have read that flux, from soldering during installation can cause this. Any ideas? Thanks, CLM

Hello: The only thought that comes to mind is that too much paste type flux could have been used. Can you find out what sort of flux it was? I'd expect there to be some on the pipes, which could be cleaned with a mild solvent or soap. Yours, Larry

That was the solution I came up with, I believe the person that installed it caused the issue. They didn't wait for a solution, they had a plumber install a brand new one, then tried to get me to refund the money. Thank you for the reply!
