Hi Randy

I appreciated all the help I got on this forum. After talking to everyone on here and getting the recommendations, I looked up AO Smith once again, but as suggested, went through a private contractor (something we never even thought of), instead of going to a "big box" store and buying something that had decent reviews online or one that the sales person might recommend. Going through a private contractor and getting a higher quality water heater was a much wiser choice.

That all said, I actually did try and read quite a bit before registering because I actually don't like having accounts all over. The biggest reason that I did just register instead of trying to read more was because it just seemed so technical to me and I really had a hard time understanding it. The language that the site is written in is basic, but the concepts, to me, initially were not. My background is in the medical field, but I've also been out of the work force for several years. I did jump straight into the section on finding the best (how I came across the Power Miser 9 name) and when I didn't understand it, I started from the beginning, Basics. After I started to post, I did go back and tried again to learn, spending several hours doing so. I guess when it comes to these things, I just don't get it. I didn't read all the pages (such as the codes per State), but I read quite a bit and it just didn't click. After getting some of the answers, a lot finally did make sense, but it took awhile and definitely lots of questions. After rereading and getting my questions answered, it's been great. Now that I do have a better understanding,
this site has become a greater wealth of information and I really do thank all of you for putting it together. Please don't take this in a negative way. I always struggle with understanding anything mechanical and having people "answer" makes it easier to understand. Thinking about it now, perhaps having a glossary section (I may have missed it) might so simplify things for folks like me. Other than that, now I do (think) I
understand, this site will become more valuable as we try and learn maintanence (since we obviously never maintained the first) and actually, will be passing on maintenance info to others in the family so they will keep up with it as well.
No doubt I'm writing this response in defense of myself, but I also
wanted to just say "thank you" to all those who helped me because while I initially was so overwhelmed by it, everyone was quite patient and helped me to not only understand, but help my dad get something that he will be able to use for a long time.

I apologize if this sounds like everything is all over the place. I actually only have Internet on the iPod right now and can't figure out how to scroll this and proofread.

Actually, there IS a glossary, Lingo. But don't apologize. You didn't do anything wrong and I certainly didn't mean it that way, but I did feel we beat around the bush a lot on this, and I also feel that people often do want a quick, simple answer that just isn't there.

I apologize. I was reading the same sections over and over really trying to comprehend it. I actually didn't think to google the terms until later. The glossary was just something I just thought of.

Hello Betsy:  Making technical things clear to non-technicians is a bit of an art form.  The benefits of doing it though are three-fold.  We get to help you out right now.  The answers are there to help out anybody in future who has a similar question and we get to refine the art form and hope to do a better job of it as time goes.

I hope you'll let us know how things are going and of course feel free to ask questions   I'm curious to know what path you wind up taking.

Yours,  Larry

Thanks Larry!
You've been wonderful helping me out.
As for making technical things easier to understand, I do appreciate how difficult it is. As I had mentioned, I work in the medical field. Many times in the past, when I have tried to explain something to a patient or my husband, they acted as if they understood. Truth was, they only picked up, maybe, a quarter of what I explained. It took a long time and lots of feedback from everyone before I finally started to make sense.
I'll update once things are installed back on the home front :)

Thanks again!

Hi all
Thanks again for your help. They showed up to give an estimate, then said something about the way the pipes run in, they had no choice but to replace with another 100 gallon one. So they replaced it wih an American one. So far, they are happy with it. Thanks again for all your patience guys!
