Hello,

I have the above mentioned model gas water heater. It was built in 2005 and is installed in a laundry room. I have periodically had to clean the screen and flame arrestor because of pilot outage. Two days ago I noticed we had no hot water. I then cleaned the filter and screen and re-lit the pilot. This time it took many presses of the ignitor button to get a spark. When it finally did lite, it stayed on until the burner shut off. The temp was set to the normal setting we use ( just shy of all the way up ). At this time I noticed that the water was not nearly as hot as we normally use it. I repeated this liteing procedure a few more times with the same results.

What I'm seeing as odd is this:
The pilot is harder to lite but does stay lit.
The pilot goes out when the burner shuts off but the water isn't hot enough.

Sorry for the rambling post but I'm about fed up with the fvir water heaters and really am considering going to electric.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

EDIT: I tried once again. This time I set the temp to a lower setting. (I have included a pic) The burner shut off and the pilot stayed lit.

EDIT: Worked one time then happened again. Plus water is barely lukewarem.

The eco in the thermostat is starting to fail. American, Whirlpool, Reliant and A.O. Smith all have had a problem in the last few years with these Robertshaw valves. Soon you will not be able to relight it. Your thermostat still may be under part warranty so give them a call.

Thank you very much for your reply. I'll start digging up my paperwork to see if its under warranty. My first gas water heater was one of the original whirlpool flamelock fvir heaters. Absolutely the worst piece of crap I've every owned. Swore I'd never again buy whirlpool
